BUSHY Leaze Community Support Fund has received a whopping £11,000 boost thanks to Alton’s annual Victorian cricket match.

The support fund has been set up to ensure Bushy Leaze Children and Families Centre can continue to provide vital family support and outreach to families with children aged up to five in Alton and the surrounding area.

This magnificent amount was raised by the generosity of everyone who attended the Victorian cricket event in June and supported Bushy Leaze as this year’s chosen charity.

Record raffle ticket sales and bar sales contributed to the figure.

The Alton Victorian cricket committee has thanked event sponsors Warren Powell-Richards, Everyone Active, Kemp & Stevens, Specsavers, and Westwood Travel. Also to Alton Masonic Lodges, who donated £1,000 to the total, and to the breweries which donated beer for the bar.

Commenting on the donation, Bushy Leaze Community Support Fund chairman Dawn Murphy said: “We are thrilled and amazed at the generosity of the people who have supported Bushy Leaze at this wonderful annual Alton event.

“We cannot thank everyone involved enough. This will go a long way to continuing to help families in Alton and the surrounding area.”

Dawn added: “We would like to give a special thank you to the Victorian cricket committee and their partners and friends who made the day possible. It has been a pleasure and privilege to work with them. Their passion and commitment to supporting local charities is unlimited. Thank you.”

This year’s tournament winners were The Railway Arms, who beat The Eight Bells in the final.

Victorian cricket committee vice-chairman Derek Gardner said: “It was a wonderful day, we had great weather, great crowds, and great fun. We would like to thank all of you who attended or supported the day with a huge thank you.”

Next year’s Victorian cricket match is scheduled to take place at The Butts on Sunday, June 23, at 10am.
