A NURSE at Farnham Hospital has been recognised as one of the Stars of the Year across all Virgin companies at a special awards ceremony hosted by Richard Branson.

Wendy Thomas, 51, who joined Virgin Care as a community matron at Farnham Hospital in 2012, received four nominations from her peers for being a role model, “living Virgin Care’s values” and for her “positive” and “solution-focused” approach to protecting and improving care quality.

Wendy is now the lead for quality and clinical effectiveness for Virgin Care in Surrey.

The judges said that Wendy stood out as continually having made a major impact for people using Virgin Care’s services in Surrey and recognised her contribution to the team’s successes over the last year.

Virgin Care Services Limited was rated ‘good’ by the CQC for its community services for adults, following an inspection earlier in 2017.

Wendy has supported innovations and improvements such as Quality Week – an event celebrating success of teams at improving quality across the area – and with the Feel the Difference Fund, which provides seed funding for projects suggested and run by frontline staff.

Wendy said: “I am so proud to work for this fantastic organisation. There’s so many incredible people at Virgin Care, I feel honoured and amazed at being chosen to be one of the organisation’s Stars of the Year.”
