TRIBUTES have been paid to a "remarkable woman" from Whitehill, who lost her battle against breast cancer earlier this month. Kendal Macara, age 50 and from Aspen Close, is survived by her husband, Neil, and two sons, Ross, 18, and Benjamin, 14. Mrs Macara was diagnosed with a rare form of inflammatory cancer in August 2006 and passed away on Monday, June 2. She lived in Whitehill for more than 20 years, where she was known to many people for her work campaigning for better facilities for children with the Bordon and Liphook Under Eights Forum. Mrs Macara also supported the drop-in centre at the Forest Community Centre and chaired a baby-and- toddler group for a number of years. A statement by close friends Mandi Allen and Sue Wade said: "Guildford Crematorium pulled out all the stops to accommodate the estimated 400-plus devoted guests who turned up to celebrate her life. We were overwhelmed by the number of local people who took the time and effort to attend the service, especially those who had to stand outside." As her children grew up, Mrs Macara threw herself into fundraising for Woodlea primary and Eggar's schools, and helped the Liphook and District Businessmen's Assoc-iation with its annual bike ride. Mrs Wade said: "Ross and Benjamin completed the bike ride just after days after losing their mother and have raised a significant amount of money in her memory. "Her lovely manner and caring ways were put to good use when she became a receptionist for Thames Doc at the Chase Hospital, where she came into contact with even more local people."
