LOCAL MP Jeremy Hunt has called on residents to rally behind their local post offices and demands "grassroots pressure" ahead of a consultation on the proposed post office plan for South West Surrey. The consultation, set to launch on January 29, will seek to clarify some of the issues surrounding the future of local post offices and, in particular, those ear-marked for closure. Once the list of proposals is made public Mr Hunt, who has often spoken about the need to save post offices in the area, will be stepping up his campaign. "While the announcement, next Tuesday, will end some of the uncertainty, it will only be the beginning of the fight to reverse any proposals to close post offices in our area," he said. "It's vital for communities that rely on a post office to rally behind their local branch. "Post Office bosses and ministers need to know just how strongly people feel. I will be doing what I can, but it is grassroots pressure that will swing this in the end."
