A woman who flipped burgers by the A3 is now serving up some tasty nosh in a nearby waterside café.
The NMG Fishery in Greatham has another draw as The Pump Station Café opened in mid-September.
Carole Matthews says things are picking up at the “hidden” café, tucked away at the end of a track between the A3 and Longmoor Road, since its launch last month.
She knows the terrain having previously run The Nosh Wagon from the layby north of the Ham Barn roundabout.
She said: “The fishing place next door has new owners and they’re putting some money into it.
“There was a café here originally but I think it was mainly for the anglers. The new owners want to make it more accessible to everyone and get the word out.
“It’s been good so far and business is picking up,” added Carole, who was recommended to run the café by the fishery’s previous owners.
“There’s a nice patio where you can see the lake and it’s wonderful in the sunshine. It’s a lovely hidden spot.”
The café, which is open from 8am to 2pm every Wednesday to Sunday, has been something of a secret until now but it’s starting to pull more than anglers with its breakfast and lunch options.
There’s also been rising interest from ramblers and walkers with a few stopping by at the end of last week, with the café’s generous portions getting a big thumbs up.
“I do a mean full English, but because it’s a bit of a gut-buster most go for the small one, which is still pretty big,” said Carole.
“If you’ve got a big appetite then the big breakfast is definitely the one to go for.”
