LEONARD Cheshire, the founder of disability charities worldwide, became, from his 30s onward, a man ahead of his time.
His heroism as a Second World War bomber pilot, for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross, and his witnessing of the atomic bomb being dropped on Nagasaki, were only the start of his remarkable life, says Lorna Wallis.
