THE OWNER of a flock of pedigree sheep in Crondall is threatening to shoot the dogs which have killed one of her animals and traumatised three others.

Brigid Kirsch, who with her husband, Raymond, owns about 50 Lleyn sheep and keeps beef cattle on their 120-acre estate, is livid about the mauling of one of her sheep, which had half its neck destroyed in the attack.

"I am absolutely disgusted and think people are so careless with their dogs. Our fields have always been so safe until now."

"About a week ago, I spotted a pair of dogs, an Alsatian cross and a large black mongrel, in my fields. They ran off across the hay field and then a few days ago, I saw them again in woodland. They ran off, barking and I thought they were barking at the geese."

"Foolishly, I didn't go and see what the problem was and the next morning, there were four missing and all the wire at the bottom of the field was down so the dogs had obviously driven the flock through it."

"It was a scene of dessimation. There was fleece everywhere, one dead sheep and a feeble bleating coming from one by the river, another had forced itself into a bramble patch and was impaled in it and another had barbed wire all around it."

Mrs. Kirsch said she has spoken to neighbours to try to find out who owns the dogs and has asked the police to help.

In the meantime, she has pledged to shoot the dogs if she spots them on her land again.

"When I see these dogs again, I am going to blast them away," she said.

For the time being, though, the sheep and all her new lambs are being kept in fields close to the house where there is security lighting and she can keep an eye on them.

Anyone who has any information about the incident should contact the police.
