THE first of a series of Bordon bands nights kicked off in style last Saturday as a number of up and coming bands performed to an enthusiastic audience at the Forest Community Centre. This new initiative, launched by county councillor Adam Carew and the Whitehill-Bordon Community Association, got the green light following a donation from the new county councillors grant scheme. After a meeting with pupils of Mill Chase Technology College, it was clear to Adam Carew that a night of live music is exactly what the young people of Bordon are missing. The night was organised by rock and pop promoters High Desert Music and began with a stylish performance from Bordon's very own band, Origin. The five-piece band, who are all pupils at Mill Chase School, played a 30 minute set with real energy and confidence. This was followed by a solid performance from Coast Found Effect. The gig was headlined by Arthur – an up and coming five-piece pop band from Fleet. Fronted by singer Hannah Shark, the band came with their own fan club in tow. A real highlight of the evening were back-combed punk popsters The Get Away Team who played an adrenaline-fuelled live set. The band had amazing presence and had the audience in a dancing frenzy with their powerful performances of Lost all Hope and I Regret. Adam Carew said: "The atmosphere was electric! We had a fantastic line up, with amazing performances. I have been really keen to get this project off the ground and this new county councillor's fund has made it a reality. This is the first initiative of its type in Bordon and we hope it will become a regular event. "The young people attending were a real credit to the community – they were exceptionally well behaved, polite and enthusiastic. Some even helped clear up. "Finally, there is really something for young people to do in Bordon and we want as many people to come as possible and enjoy the fun." Special thanks were given to the centre manager Lindsay Kelly and staff at the Forest Community Centre and to Andy and the security team from High Desert Music for helping to make the night into a reality. Organisers would also like to thank the Kings Church who supplied the sound system and, St John Ambulance who were in attendance in case of accidents. The next gig will be on Friday, November 23. Doors open 7.15pm for 8pm kick off. Tickets cost £4 and can only be bought on the door.
