MORE than 80 people of all ages attended the Forest Community Centre’s first barn dance on Saturday.

Music was provided by the Bursledon Village Band, known for easy-to-dance-to music played in a relaxed southern-US style.

There were prizes for the best-dressed country-and-western costume along with a raffle. And the 1st Headley Scouts were on hand to provide burgers, hot dogs and drinks.

Barn dancer Laura Purkiss said: “It was lovely for the community centre to invite my family in Bordon and to see so many members of the local community enjoying themselves.

“My friends, and friends’ children, had a great time and we hope it becomes a regular occurrence.”

Beth Durbin echoed the sentiment, saying: “Some of the people I was with want it to become a regular event.

“I had a great night and the atmosphere was amazing.

“The band and caller made the night a hit with their enthusiasm and brilliant music.”

Michael Rutland, administrator at the Forest Community Centre and organiser of the event, said: “It was a great evening and there were smiles and laughter throughout.

“It was good to see whole families - in some cases three generation - all dancing. It was the first barn dance to be held at the centre but another is planned for later this year.”

Mr Rutland extended a special thanks to those who volunteered and helped with setting up the event, running the bar and with refreshments.
