SOCIAL workers are being offered incentive payments of up to £15,000 as part of efforts to attract more to work in Surrey.

New recruits to Surrey County Council’s children’s services will receive £7,000 spread over the first four years of working for the council.

On top of a £2,000 starter payment, they will get £2,500 on each of their third and fourth anniversaries.

Social workers moving to the county for a permanent role are also entitled to up to £8,000 towards the costs of relocation, meaning they could qualify for as much as £15,000 in total.

The recruitment drive is part of a £2 million investment to attract and retain more social workers to ensure that children in need in Surrey are given the best possible support.

The campaign is particularly targeting experienced social workers considering the next step in their career. More information about Surrey’s training and rewards package can be found online at www.surreycc.gov.uk/jobs/

Clare Curran, Surrey’s cabinet member for children and families well-being, said: “We’re investing in our pay and reward package for experienced children’s social workers despite the financial pressures we are under because young people who need our help deserve the best possible support.
