IT had to have been one of the best events pupils have ever enjoyed when Bordon Infant School held an Olympic-themed sports day.
In keeping with the tradition of the international games, there was a parade of nations with each class wearing the colours and carrying the flags of the country they had chosen to represent.
Elephant Class, who represented New Zealand, even did the Haka Maori tribal dance before taking part in the sports which were a mix of running, throwing and obstacle races,
The mayor and mayoress of Whitehill, David and Cynthia Cooper, watched the event at the Budds Lane school with former mayor Sally Pond and members of the town council. Mr Cooper later presented the medals and certificates, with Elephant Class the winner of the team events. At the end of the morning each team got a certificate.
A school spokesman said of the run up to the sports day: “Each class was asked to choose a country to represent and then we had lessons to discuss the culture, food, arts and crafts and geography of each of the countries. On the day they all had Olympic rings, sports uniforms in the colours of their chosen country and their flags.
“They also sang the national anthems of each of the countries and, as well as being educational, it was great fun.”
