YOUNG members of Alton Infant School choir will be performing in the Market Square next Sunday (November 26), entertaining families as they turn out for Home-Start WeyWater’s annual Santa Run.

The children, who have been practising their festive songs, donned Santa hats last week to flag up the event.

An independent charity whose volunteers are trained to offer friendship and support to struggling parents with a least one child under the age of five, HomeStart Wey-Water covers Alton and Bordon and aims to “provide a valuable and practical support service that makes a real difference to family life” – helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown.

Centred on the Market Square, Home-Start’s Santa Sunday will include Santa’s grotto, festive stalls, entertainment, and seasonal refreshments.

Entertainment will include carols by the Alton Infant School choir, and music courtesy of Alton College, Amery Hill School, a ukulele band, and the Alton Morris band, who will head up the Santa Stroll.

Registration for the fancy dress Santa Run will open at noon, with the first race, the Santa Stroll, starting at 1pm, followed by the team race at 1.30pm, and the children’s race, for seven to 11 year olds, at 2pm.

The main Santa Run, for people aged 15 and over, will line up for the off at 2.30pm, with a ‘best costume’ parade and prizegiving in the Market Square at 3pm.

The race route will go from the Market Square, into the High Street and up Crown Hill, round the gardens and back down the High Street, either returning via Market Street or Cross and Pillory Lane.
