BURYFIELDS Infant School has an opportunity to cook the books, following the official opening of a its combined library and kitchen building.

Ranil Jayawardena, the MP for North East Hampshire, was on hand to help when the doors were opened at the Odiham school on May 6. Proud representatives of the governors and the parent teacher association were keen to show off the new facilities, as well as builders Nolan Davis Contracting.

The kitchen was built with funds from the universal free school meals initiative, which requires all government-funded schools to offer lunch free to every pupil from reception through to year two. This year schools get £2.30 per meal from the government.

The school spokesman said: “It was a lovely opportunity to show off our school, and celebrate how lucky we are to have our new kitchen and library space.

“Thank you to our architect, Alice Duffield, and to our builders, Andy and Bradley, for working so well with us – and to Katie Bleathman and the PTA for agreeing to fund an upgrade of our library shelving.”

Mr Jayawardena wrote on Facebook: “It was a pleasure to open the brand new library and ICT area. These fantastic new facilities will be incredibly beneficial to the local children in Odiham and surrounding parishes.”
