MEMBERS of Alton and Andover Inner Wheel clubs joined up for a visit to Chawton in August and were blessed with a “perfect summer’s day”.

After meeting for coffee at Cassandra’s Cup, they spent the rest of the morning in Jane Austen’s House Museum and enjoyed the picturesque garden. They then moved on to Chawton House Library where lunch was enjoyed in the Courtyard followed by a tour of the house and garden.

A visit to Chawton Church, where some of Jane’s family are buried, completed “a most enjoyable day”.

Alton Inner Wheel is keen to encourage new members, as although originally formed by Rotarians’ wives the organisation is now open to any ladies who are interested in helping others while enjoying friendship and fun at social events.

With this in mind, an open morning will be held at Alton Assembly Rooms on Tuesday, September 26, from 10am to noon, when free coffee and biscuits will be served while providing an opportunity to learn more about the organisation.

Members will be on hand to explain the aims of Inner Wheel and everyone is welcome.
