A HERO from the Iraq war of 2004 will be the guest speaker at a charity dinner in aid of The Soldiers’ Charity in Farnham next month.
The Soldiers’ Charity local committee are holding an informal dinner at the Army Reserves Centre in Farnham on Friday, December 8.
Following a reception with interesting cocktails, LSgt Johnson Beharry VC will be the speaker before guests tuck into a fine selection of curries.
LSgt Beharry was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest military decoration for valour in the British and Commonwealth armed forces, in 2005 for saving members of his unit, the 1st Battalion Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, from ambushes on May 1 and again on June 11, 2004 at Al-Amarah, Iraq.
There will also be a cash bar for wines, beers and soft drinks. Organisers are collecting really worthwhile prizes as well, so there will be a bumper raffle after dinner.
