Severe weather conditions either side of the Irish Bank Holiday Monday gave way to bright sunny skies and almost balmy temperatures, allowing the Haslemere Border AC team to have a great day out at the 22nd Dublin City marathon.

The three Border runners, Rebecca Kemp, Helen Raines and Vernon Le Suer, and their supporters made the trip to Ireland especially for the race, dreading the 80mph winds, lashing rain and powercuts that could make the event a gruelling one.

However, the weather cleared and the HBAC team each took around just four hours to complete the race.

The 26.2-mile course wound through the streets of central Dublin and through the city's picturesque Phoenix Park. The support was excellent, with spectators lining every part of the route.

Over 8,000 entrants had come from all over the world and their supporters included Americans, Canadians and French, as well as many of the local Irish population who provided their own water-stops (sadly no Guinness) and music.

The Haslemere trio were grateful for all the support they received from sponsors, and their friends and family who lined the route.

Border times: Rebecca Kemp 3-51; Helen Raines 3-55; Vernon Le Sueur 4-08.
