Under plans announced on Tuesday as part of the first major overhaul of seat boundaries in England since 2010, much of Bordon could be removed from East Hampshire and placed in a new cross-county ‘Farnham and Bordon County Constituency’.
Bordon would sit at the western edge of the new constituency, with Haslemere to the far east, Liphook to the south and Farnham and Upper Hale to the north.
But curiously, Whitehill and much of the new development east of the Bordon Inclosure, including Duke’s Quarter and the new town centre, would remain in East Hampshire.
Cllr Tree said: “It does seem most bizarre that they would split Whitehill and Bordon/Lindford up into different constituency areas, when the area is one big county council division, is all part of East Hampshire district area and Whitehill & Bordon is united by our town council area.
“At first glance, it looks like we are an afterthought that has been carved up and fitted in to other seats for convenience, with no community-driven identity link.
“Alton, Farnham, Petersfield, Haslemere, Farnham are not treated like this in the report and split up – so why us?
“How much attention would an MP give Bordon, if also covering Farnham and Haslemere?”
