Northchapel Primary School PTA held its sixth 5km race on November 9, when they introduced an autumn run into their fundraising calendar following a very successful spring run.

Despite the bad weather and very wet and muddy conditions, it attracted a big turnout and raised more than £575 for much-needed school and swimming pool funds.

A grand total of 65 runners competed and another group took part in the new challenge of an obstacle course on the green for those that didn’t want to tackle the cross-country mud.

Race director, Ruth Blanco, said: “I was trying to think of a new fundraiser for our village school and I love running in our gorgeous countryside, so I thought I’d put the two together and organise a 5km race.

“We held our first one in 2015. We want to involve everyone and it’s great to see so many local kids running with their parents. Everyone gets cheered home and it’s such a friendly village event.”
