AN eagle-eyed woman has been praised by police after her quick-thinking led to the recovery of a haul of stolen property. The woman was walking along Lime Avenue last Friday at 10-08 pm when she spotted a man acting suspiciously around parked cars. She called the police who later arrested a man on suspicion of going equipped to commit theft. A subsequent search of a property in Alton, turned up a number of stolen car stereo and cassette players, cassettes and a number of other items. Since then, police have reunited the stolen equipment with its owners, including a radio/ cassette player stolen from a Nissan Primera in Kellynch Close and stereos stolen from a Mitsubishi Space Wagon and a Peugeot 306 parked in Northanger Close. A police spokesman said: "We would like to say a big thank you to the member of the public". The man arrested has been released on bail until January.
