A LONG-SERVING member of the Hook community has been presented with an award for her service to the area.
Janet Deller received the Hook Community Award for 2016, at the annual village meeting last month.
Apart from serving as a councillor on Hook Parish Council for 12 years, Janet also helped on committees for the Elizabeth Hall and Hook Village Community Association, now merged as Hook Village Halls Charity Association (HVHCA).
She was part of the planning team for the Elizabeth Hall, which opened in 2008. And she was involved in various stages of the refurbishment of Hook Community Centre.
A stalwart, Janet is well known for her brilliant attention to detail in all of the tasks she takes on. Described as a fountain of local knowledge, she has a name for ferreting out the answer to any question relating to Hook.
In the late 1980s, Janet was one of the team that formed the Hook focus committee. She has been a member ever since, most recently taking on the role of managing subscriptions and distribution for the community magazine.
Presenting the award, the new chair of Hook Parish Council, Jane Worlock, said: "As Janet has recently stepped down as a director of HVHCA, this is an appropriate year for her contribution to the community of Hook to be acknowledged.
“Thank you, Janet, for everything you have done for the village."
Accepting the award, Janet said:“I am very honoured to receive this award, and so pleased to have contributed in a voluntary role with Hook Focus, HVHCA and the Parish Council.
“It has been personally rewarding to be involved with our community, and I encourage everyone to consider volunteering with local organisations.”
