A JAZZ evening is being hosted by the Friends of All Saints, Grayswood, at the church on Saturday night (May 21) with the John Shillito Band playing traditional New Orleans jazz, jive, boogie woogie, blues and swing.

Well-known as the lead trumpeter in his field, John has celebrated 50 years of band leading.

The band is based in the West Country, but with a growing fan base, now includes Grayswood on its regular tours.

Friends’ member Janet Dallas told The Herald: “There are six veteran musicians in the band who have learned their music from the masters of the ’traditional style’ but who are far from being ’yesterday’s men’.

“They have a great ensemble sound but audiences find that they’re also outstanding soloists.

“John has selected a programme that will strike all the right chords in many moods.”
