A BORDON resident has made an extra addition to her family, with the help of a new online rehoming service by Battersea dogs and cats home. Dr Jia Doulton found Sally, a lurcher cross, on the website and knew instantly that she was a perfect match. Dr Doulton said: "My family and I had wanted a dog for a long time and decided to go to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home because of its trusted name. I logged onto the Battersea website and browsed the pages of available dogs and came across a gorgeous lurcher cross named Sally." The online rehoming process makes it easy for people outside London to make the initial approaches about getting a pet. Thanks to this system, Dr Doulton only had to make the journey once to meet Sally, after a successful telephone interview with Battersea's rehoming team. "Sally had broken a leg when she arrived at Battersea and there were concerns that it might have to be amputated," said Dr Doulton. "After successfully completing the rehoming process, I took Sally to the famous local surgeon Noel Fitzpatrick and luckily he agreed to try to save her leg. "Two operations later, Sally now has two metal plates in her leg, but she's made a full recovery, running at full speed and enjoying her daily walks. We're just delighted." What would Dr Doulton say to other people in Bordon who are thinking about getting a new dog? "Go to Battersea," she said. "Don't be put off by the fact that you don't live nearby because you can apply to rehome a dog online or on the phone, which makes the process really easy."
