HASLEWEY was busy doing its bit last week for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care which swings into action across Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex today (Friday).

Events planned will be the big day for fundraisers across the country and the charity hopes it can beat last year’s total of £27million.

Staff and volunteers at the Haslemere Community Centre, at Lion Green, in Haslemere, rallied around to serve up some tasty treats, and every tea or coffee and slice of cake ordered included a £1.50 donation to Macmillan.

Goodies made by staff members, included Kate O’Brien’s marble cake, Helen Talbot’s cup cakes and Magda Psonka’s chocolate brownies, while the centre’s chef Mark Montgomery weighed in with a lemon drizzle cake and his assistant Karen Gale’s baked a Victoria sponge.

Deputy manager Magda said: “It was fantastic. We raised £115 and I’m happy so many people came and supported Macmillan. Every penny counts.”

There are events planned at In Home Care, at Crossways Road, Grayshott, from 10am-3pm.

The Millennium Centre, in Liphook, from 10am-1pm, and The Royal Anchor pub, in Liphook Square, all day from 9am.

Haslewey’s community meals service is also going down a treat and the centre is appealing for more volunteer drivers to keep up with the demand.

Would-be volunteers are invited to call Kerry on (01428) 648716.
