HASLEMERE Tesco is backing a Mass Unwrap on Saturday, January 18,10am-midday to raise awareness of the scale of our platic waste problem.
The Love Haslemere Hate Waste team will be hosting the event at the store to demonstrate the volume of unnecessary packaging we get through during every weekly shop.
Green Party town councillor Gary Lloyd said the results could be a “bit shocking”.
Mr Lloyd said: “It’s a great cause – a positive drive to reduce waste by any one of the major retailers has a good chance of triggering a ‘chain reaction’ among others , but only if there is visible public pressure.
“The more supporters we can get along to it the better.”
At the event, customers will pay as normal and then be invited to join a Love Haslemere Hate Waste volunteer, who will help take off unnecessary plastic packaging for recycling.
Town resident Victoria Page launched the campaign for Haslemere to lead the way in cutting down on single-use plastic waste at the museum in June 2019.
The launch was attended by more than 100 supporters.
