IT is described as an “epic obstacle race” and with a name like ’Judgement Day’ it promises to offer a challenge.

The race is coming to Bordon on Saturday, October 24, offering ropes to climb, barbed wire to struggle under, walls to scale, monkey bars to swing from, and mud to get stuck in.

The founders of Judgement Day, in 2014, Mark Buller and ex-paratrooper Dean Havilland, have devised the “best new obstacle race” - but they are keeping under wraps the kind of obstacles contestants will be facing.

This style of fitness test is becoming popular and American brands, such as Tough Mudder, have brought events to the UK, with obstacles featuring tear-gas-like substances or electric shocks to test the determination of competitors.

But Judgement Day spokesman Alex Judd said: “We promise no gimmicks, like tear gas or electric shocks, to face. Every obstacle is there for a challenge, not a headline."

Bordon has been chosen, he said, for its "diverse and demanding environment”.

“There’s nowhere quite like Bordon with acres of incredible hills, lakes, mud and scenery,” he said. “Judgement Day 2015 promises to be a real test of strength, endurance and grit.

“It will be one of those races where you cross the line with a huge smile on your face, feeling immensely proud of what you have just achieved.”

Mr Buller, race director, said: “Obstacle course races mirror military-style training courses, featuring several miles of running with a variety of man-made and natural obstacles to tackle throughout - along with plenty of mud to contend with too.

"We wanted Judgement Day to bring obstacle course races back to its core principles and with no gimmicks - an approach that ensures every obstacle is a true test of fitness, and not just a headline grabber.”

The race, to be held on Army ground in Oakhanger Road, starts at 9am. For bookings before October 11, registration is £60 for the six-kilometre course and £70 for the 12-kilometre version. A discount of up to £10 per person is available on group registrations of four people or more.
