MEMBERS of Farnham martial arts group, Yoshinkan Dojo (Southern England Branch), are incredibly proud after one member, Ed, received the Jujutsu black belt in Japan.
Ed came to the Farnham branch around 15 months ago, despite a love of all things Japanese, especially martial arts, and training for more than 15 years in different so called systems of ’Jujutsu’ Ed had virtually given up on it, as a system and finding a school that he could believe in, and would work for him alongside his other endeavours.
Since then, the club has opened his eyes to many new ideas and principles of authentic Japanese Jujutsu, and of the often spoken about, but seldom truly understood – Ju (Softness).
“Ed has worked very hard and has become a key member of our small dojo in Farnham, overcoming some serious illness and physical hurdles along the way, including cerebral palsy and limited movement in his right hand,” said Guy Preston, Motoha Yoshin Ryu, Southern England branch, Farnham.
“I’m pleased to announce that while visiting Japan, Ed was able to train at our Hombu Dojo in Yonago, and also received the honour of being promoted by Yasumoto Soke to the grade of Shodan. Well deserved Ed, well done.”
