A MUM at a Whitehill school has “braved the shave”, bidding farewell to her hair for a good cause.
Julie Reid had her head shaved at Woodlea School, in Atholl Road, raising more than £600 from sponsorship for the Macmillan cancer-support charity. Her cut locks have been donated to the Little Princess Trust, which makes real-hair wigs for children with cancer.
As well as having a son at the school, Ms Reid was appointed, last month, as Woodlea’s Forest School leader after volunteering for two and a half years.
“I have previously donated hair to the Little Princess Trust,” she said. “But after seeing family and friends affected by cancer and the amazing support that Macmillan offers, I decided to go the extra inch and be sponsored to undergo a more drastic cut.

Spicing up the festive season at the Bengal Lounge in Wrecclesham“The headteacher (Marcella Dobson) agreed to me having the shave at the school at the end of the day and all the children, parents and staff have been supportive. The children helped to section and plait my hair before it was cut and shaved - one child said it was ‘just like a sheep has it done’.
“Shaving my head has led to interesting discussions with the children as to my reasoning and where the hair would be going. My hair was cut by local hairdresser Michelle Armitage who gave up her time for free to help.”
