A FARNHAM mum has raised more than £28,000 to help her godson, who suffers from a progressive and incurable disease that leads to blindness.

June Birch, of Lower Bourne, was inspired to raise the money by 10-year-old Finlay Macleod, who was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa last year, an inherited disease of the eye for which currently there is no cure.

The mum, whose daughter Tallulah is just six weeks older than Finley, is raising money for the charity RP Fighting Blindness, which receives most of its funding for research into the disease from community fundraising and grants.

Along with 17 friends, June will take part in the 2013 Bupa London 10-kilometre charity run on May 27. The group will wear T-shirts that display the phrase Team Finlay. She originally set a fundraising target of £5,000 for the charity run, but said donations have exceeded all expectations.
