BORDON Junior School has recently found out that it will be given funding by Hampshire County Council to carry out a building project to boost the school's facilities. The school will be given £140,000 to create a secure entrance lobby and improve administration ccommodation. The school itself is contributing £62,000 towards the improvements. Schools in Bordon, Petersfield, Gosport, Hamble and Fareham have been given the funding for building projects at a cost of around £750,000 in total. The county council will be injecting almost £500,000, which is needed to enable these works to begin on schedule. Approving Hampshire County Council's contribution, the executive member for education, David Kirk said: "I am delighted to approve the necessary funding to ensure these exciting development projects begin on schedule. "These improvements are part of the ongoing commitment by both the county council and our schools to provide the best learning environment possible for our young people." Bordon Junior School headteacher John Sergeant said: "I am thrilled the school has been successful in its bid for funding. At present the offices and the headteacher's room are woefully inadequate and it will be a wonderful change for all concerned to work in properly designed, spacious accommodation which allows efficient working. "The building work involves some reorganisation of the interior space and our new office suite will be more appropriately placed at the northern end of the building, nearest the school gates. "There will be a new and very obvious entrance to the school – a canopied porch forms part of the project and this will lead into a new reception area and office suite. "The office staff will find it easier to monitor visitors to the site and will be able to control vehicular access too. It is planned to install electric gates that will control access to the car park and security of the building will be further improved by the automatic doors with a key fob system. "This work is in conjunction with further internal changes that include the provision of a new and larger computer suite and new learning support room." "It has always been the aim of the governing body to provide the very best facilities and working environment for all staff and pupils here at Bordon and they are delighted that this next phase of the school's improvement has been agreed. "The school's financial contribution is considerable and demonstrates this commitment. "The development does not stop there however and there are already plans afoot to make further changes and improvements. "Bordon Junior School is an exciting place to be – there is always something happening."
