PETERSFIELD-born kayaker Jon Schofield surged to an Olympic bronze medal in the canoe sprint at Eton Dorney last Saturday.
Schofield, partnered by Liam Heath, fended off the challenge of the French pair in the final of the men's kayak double (K2) race over 200 metres to secure the medal.
They finished less than one second behind Russian gold medal winners Yury Postrigay and Alexander Piatrushenka with paddlers from Belarus securing the silver medal.
Schofield, who left Petersfield at the age of five and now lives in Clitheroe, Lancashire, and Heath's determined medal-wining display in front of a noisy and partisan crowd at Eton Dorney, Buckinghamshire, which was also home to the Olympic rowing events, was the perfect end to a day on the water for the British which started with Ed McKeever winning gold for Team GB in the opening men's kayak singles (K1) final.
Meanwhile, star striker Alex Danson found the net in GB women's 3-1 win over New Zealand at the Riverbank Stadium last Friday which secured the bronze medal.
Danson, who used to play for Alton Hockey Club, ended the tournament as Great Britain's top scorer with five goals.
