AFTER spending a year fundraising, Tylney Park Golf Club Ladies have raised over £1,750 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The ladies golf club based in Rotherwick, Hook, spent the last 12 months hosting various events to raise funds for Macmillan after outgoing Lady Captain of the club, Louise Foxwell, chose to support Macmillan as her charity of the year.

The cancer support charity is one close to home for the club captain, with various family members, fellow golfers and friends touched by cancer in one way or another.

Louise organised a host of different activities during her captaincy year, including a Ladies Golf Drive, a World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, fining club members for rule breaking and a big raffle, all of which contributed to a fantastic £1,765.31 being raised.

That sort of money can help pay for a Macmillan nurse for nearly two weeks, as well as helping those living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.

Natalie Wiltshire, fundraising manager for North East Hampshire, said: “Sadly the number of people being diagnosed with cancer is increasing every year and that means Macmillan’s support for people living with cancer is in more demand than ever.

“No one should have to face cancer alone and it’s only through the fantastic support we get from golf clubs like Tylney Park that we can be there for people cancer and their family when they need us most.

“Whatever your passion or pastime is, you could use it to raise money for Macmillan. There are lots of wacky and wonderful ways to get involved and by signing up to hold your own event.

“It can be your event, your way, you’ll also be making a big difference to the lives of people affected by cancer.”
