BrendonCare Alton resident Hazel Legg became queen for a day when she donned a tiara to celebrate her 100th birthday at the care home on February 20.

Two parties were held to mark Hazel’s special birthday. One was with her fellow residents and care home staff, who were entertained by singer Tracy Smith. The other was with her family in the BrendonCare Alton restaurant on Sunday. They included daughter-in-law Viv, grandchildren Lorraine, with husband Rob, and Stephen, with partner Alison, plus great-grandchildren Elisha, Ethan and Harry.

Born at Harrogate in North Yorkshire, Hazel grew up in Bradford and Scarborough. She served in the Land Army during the Second World War. During the Second World War, she met her husband, Leslie.

After they married, they lived at Cobham in Surrey, where Leslie grew up. While living there they welcomed the arrival of their only son, Chris. Leslie ran an accountancy business in Cobham and they both played an active part in their local Rotary Club.

Hazel came to live at BrendonCare Alton in May 2023. She loves joining in with everyone there. As well as the parties, Hazel also received a birthday card from King Charles III and Queen Camilla. Her secret to a long and happy life is “keep smiling”.
