THE licensee of The Royal Arms at Heath End has held on to his licence, but with a rap on the knuckles for undermining the authority of the police.

An incident during a pub race night in aid of the family of a soldier killed in Afghanistan prompted an application from Surrey Police for a review of the premises licence.

Waverley Council's licensing sub-committee on Monday heard two quite different versions of the altercation in the car park of the Farnborough Road pub, involving licensee Jon Paul Stubbings and a sergeant from Hampshire Police who was dealing with a drink-driver.
