RAIL commuters have experienced disruption to their journey this week after a landslip between Ash Vale and Brookwood closed the line on Monday. The landslip occurred at approximately 2 am on Monday as a result of heavy rain in the area. Network rail are currently carrying out an inspection of a tunnel and shifting large amounts of debris to allow the line to re- open. Replacement train services between Alton and London Waterloo have been put into place to serve the high volume of commuters. This week, passengers must change at Guildford to get into London Waterloo. A half- hourly shuttle service between Alton and Guildford will call at Ash and Wanborough. In addition to this, a peak morning and a evening train will run directly to and from Waterloo. These are the 6-44 am train from Alton and the 5-55 pm from Waterloo. Jan Lee, a spokesman for South West Trains, explained the operators are doing all they can to resume normal service. "We anticipate current arrangements to remain in place until Monday," she said. "There is also a problem with the slow line between Brookwood and Farnborough due to the recent flooding. Providing we can shift all the debris in time, the start of next week will be service as usual." "We would like to apologise to all of our customers for any inconvenience caused."
