CONCERNED Haslemere folk have appealed to Waverley to rethink an unpopular name change planned for a town lane.

The borough council is currently working with Haslemere Town Council and residents to resolve concerns about the lack of names for some small roads and the problems this causes, particularly for emergency services.

A number of new names for different roads have been proposed but residents living next to a previously unamed lane off the B2131 Petworth Road ? opposite Lythe Hill ? have objected they were not consulted about the name suggested, which ignores a strong local historical association, and they fear their views will not be taken into account.

The name Pine Springs Valley has been proposed for the lane and it looks set to be implemented because the objections came in too late.

The objectors, who say they were unable to respond in time because they were not directly consulted, want it to be called Laundry Lane, because it was the original way used to take the laundry up to Lythe Hill House.
