They’ve done the hard work behind the scenes: now it’s your turn to Make Your Mark and light up the town as a month of creativity is about to begin in Farnham.

Next Saturday (October 4) sees the start of October Craft Month with nearly 100 different events taking place in and around Farnham over the coming weeks.

Members of the town’s craft community have spent weeks putting together the programme ahead of the first event at Frensham Heights School.

Visitors can expect a day of craft workshops, talks and demonstrations with a “mark making and writing” theme. Letters, calligraphy, craft and communication being celebrated in a fun-filled day, with booking details at www.farnhamcrafttown.com/makeyourmark

The Farnham Creatives’ Network will take over the Creative Space in Brightwell’s Yard with a rolling programme of events across a range of craft disciplines. And over the last weekend of October, the hugely popular Craft Trail will return, with artists and makers opening up their studios to visitors.

But the most exciting event is the month is probably the lantern festival on October 31 with organisers putting out a plea for fans to get involved.

Kits – now available to buy for £5 from the Farnham Town Council offices on South Street between 10am and 4.30pm on weekdays – contain everything you need to make a willow lantern with “Creativity” being this year’s theme.

“Although the kits contain instruction sheets, don’t let that limit your imagination and make your lantern as big and imaginative as you like,” said Pippa Hufton, Craft Town co-ordinator.

“We have limited stocks of free lantern kits for community groups, so register your interest by emailing [email protected]

Most of the craft month events are free and family friendly but some have limited capacity, with more details in the Farnham Craft Town brochure.
