FIFTY years ago Flora Thompson, author of Lark Rise to Castleford, arrived in Liphook where she was to spent the next 12 of her 70 years as the postmaster’s wife.
To commemorate her time in the area, a group of Headley actors will perform the play Lark Rise at six venues in East Hampshire and West Surrey during July.
The tour is being organised as a community event by Headley Theatre Club, which has experience in touring locally-produced historical plays, and club members are on the lookout for anyone interested in becoming involved in the production.
Casting is happening this week, and there are 17 male and seven female parts to be filled, with ages ranging from eight to 80. Volunteers are also sought to help with music, backstage and other non-acting roles.
Lark Rise will tour at The Triangle, Liss, on July 8; then visit Liphook village hall (matinee and evening) on July 9; the Rural Life Centre in Tilford (matinee) on July 10; Butser Ancient Farm (evening) on July 15; Haslemere Museum (matinee) on July 16, and end at Headley village hall on July 16.
