HASLEMERE residents have been urged to respond to Surrey County Council’s proposed changes to on-street parking across Waverley before the public consultation – closes tonight (Friday).
No waiting at any time is proposed for stretches of Bridge Road, Weydown Road, Derby Road, Tanners Lane, and High Lane.
A permit holder-only parking area is proposed at Shepherd’s Hill. Bridge Road resident Elspeth Davies said: “I only found out about this on Saturday from my neighbour, who happened to spot a bit of paper stuck to one lamppost at the other end of our street.
“I live on Bridge Road, one of the streets where they are proposing big changes and I have received nothing in the post, nor my neighbours.
“Parking is clearly still a problem in Haslemere, aggravating residents, shoppers and traders alike.
“Car parks surrounding the station are full with commuters parking, while the train station’s now expanded parking has spaces.
“Surely if Haslemere’s daily car parking charges were more in line with the train station, this would not be the case?
“The train station charges £8.90 for peak time daily parking, while the daily rate for Tanners Lane car park is £4.20.
“Perhaps this could be increased to £9 for over five hours.”
