JUST £9,000 more is now needed to fund vital repairs to fix the “desperate” state of the access road to Grayshott Surgery.
A marathon fundraising drive by Boundary Road Residents’ Association, including a crowdfunder appeal, has netted more than £70,000 towards the £80,000 cost of resurfacing their road – a heavily potholed unadopted bridleway that is also the only way for ambulances, doctors, nurses and patient to get to the village surgery.
“There is still some way to go and we are running out of time,” association chairman Julia Tarento said. “We are wanting the contractors to start working in about a month.
“We’ll do whatever it takes in order to repair the damage that has been caused to our bridleway over the last few decades and to replace the potholes and ravines with a long-lasting roadway up to the surgery.
“The surgery has posters and notices all around the waiting room and reception area in an attempt to make all their patients aware of what we are trying to do.
“There are over 12,000 patients registered at the surgery and if every one of the adults could give a donation then we would have all the money we need. Many of the shops and businesses in Grayshott are supporting our endeavours and have donated, and we have had numerous cheques from individuals as a result of flyers we have been delivering to houses in the area.
“We will also be getting just over £5,000 from the Crowdfunder site after they have deducted their fees. This site was enormously beneficial in creating a lot of interest and the video showed what we are needing to do. We are getting there, but we are still £9,000 short.
“Help us reach our target so we can get the section of bridleway from Headley Road up to the surgery replaced this autumn.”
Boundary Road is in Hampshire, but Grayshott Surgery is in Surrey.
All parties agreed the cost of a permanent road surface is also much more than the 24 households who would normally have to meet the cost could afford to pay,
A sum of £60,000 was raised through donations from residents, the doctors’ practice, East Hampshire District Council, Hampshire County Council, Grayshott Parish Council and Haslemere Town Council.
Boundary Road residents joined forces to form a work party to clear the vegetation alongside the fire station wall, led by Mrs Tarento.
• Cheque donations should be made payable to Boundary Road Residents Association, c/o Julia Tarento, The Haven, Boundary Road, Grayshott, GU26 6TX.
