MAKING a will and keeping it updated is one of the most important things people can do, yet many simply never get around to it, even when circumstances change, like getting married, becoming parents or losing a loved one - which is why Phyllis Tuckwell is stepping in to put that right.

Make a Will Fortnight which takes place from September 14 to 27 will see 14 local solicitors waiving their normal fee for the preparation of a basic or standard will, in return for a suggested donation.

Phyllis Tuckwell is asking those writing their will to consider leaving a legacy donation. Apart from the helping the charity to continue providing care to people facing a serious progressive illness, legacies are also a very tax-efficient way of giving, as they are exempt from inheritance tax.

All of the care which Phyllis Tuckwell provides is given free of charge, yet the NHS/Government only covers 20 per cent of the charity’s costs, which means it has to raise over £15,000 a day to be able to provide all of its services.

Legacies fund over 20 per cent of the charity’s patient care - whatever their value.

Anna Coassin, individual giving manager at Phyllis Tuckwell said: “Last year Make a Will Fortnight was hugely popular. We would like to thank all those who have left us a gift in their will, we really do appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity.”
