‘SUNFLOWERS et Lumière’ is the evocative title of a lecture to be given on Friday, November 20, by the Right Reverend Dr Christopher Herbert, on the life and paintings of Vincent Van Gogh.

Van Gogh is a painter who needs no introduction, as his portraits, self portraits, landscapes and wheatfields are so well known, especially the Starry Night and Sunflowers but his short life ended very sadly with mental illness and an untimely early death.

Dr Herbert is well known to many Farnham people - he was vicar of St Thomas-on-the Bourne in the 1980s, a Canon of Guildford Cathedral and Archdeacon of Dorking, and in 1995 he became Bishop of St Albans.

When he retired in 2009 he returned to Farnham, and under the title of Three Abbeys he offers a long list of lectures on literature and the arts.

His lecture on November 20 on Van Gogh is organised by the Farnham Public Art Trust, and it will be at the St Joan’s Centre in Tilford Road, Farnham. Doors open at 7.30pm with time to enjoy a drink before the lecture starts at 8pm.

All are welcome. Tickets cost £6 (students £2) payable at the door. For more information visit the website www.farnham
