WAVERLEY Borough Council, in partnership with Places for People Leisure, has donated eight pieces of cardio equipment to Surrey and Fire Rescue Service.

The fitness equipment includes four cross trainers, two treadmills, one upright bike and one recumbent bike. If bought new, the cardio machines would have cost approximately £20,000.

The donation is the result of an upgrade to the resistance training equipment at Godalming Leisure Centre.

Jenny Else, portfolio holder for health, wellbeing and culture at Waverley, said: “Every five years the equipment in each of Waverley’s Leisure Centres is replaced. The fact that we are able to pass it on to such a good cause is very satisfying – a case of the very best recycling.

“Being fit and healthy is an essential part of firefighters’ roles and the cardio machines will help the firefighters of the Godalming Fire Service.”

Robert Cheeseman, health, fitness and wellbeing lead at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, added: “We will benefit greatly from the donation as we continue to focus on the health and fitness of our operational staff. This in turn should ultimately benefit the residents of Waverley, and Surrey as a whole.”
