THE fight to save a rocking horse belonging to Challengers’ Farnham playcentre is well under way, with help from Farnham Repair Cafe and potentially BBC 2.

‘Harold’ the rocking horse has been enjoyed by children at the playcentre for 14 years, but is now in need of a new mane of horsehair, two new ears and fresh plaster.

Suzanne Elsey began her mission to save the horse by approaching Haddon, the makers, but was quoted a price of £1,400 to completely refurbish it. She then approached the Herald on September 7, who put her in contact with Farnham Repair Cafe.

The repair cafe is currently waiting to hear from producers of BBC 2 programme ‘The Repair Shop’ to find out whether they can help.

Suzanne said: “I’m so passionate about it. He looks so sad, he’s lost his ears and his mane.”

Sophie Colwell, head of communications at Challengers, said: “Our community of supporters are part of the ‘orange family’ and it is people like Suzanne who come forward to support independent projects like this who make it so special.

“We would like to say a big thank you to Suzanne for supporting Challengers in this way and if we are able to get the help of the Repair Shop to bring the much-loved rocking horse back to its former glory it would be amazing.”
