SURREY'S Lib Dems have also accused the Labour government of treating local council tax payers "unfairly".
On Wednesday, South West Surrey's Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman Simon Cordon stated that his party would abolish council tax altogether.
Mr Cordon said: "The truth is that Labour is making this unfair Tory tax even worse. Only the Lib Dems are pledged to get rid of council tax. The idea is not complicated, just simple and fair."
A Lib Dem spokesman said the party has created an alternative budget which would cut council tax bills by £100, given as a refund provided by the national government.
The spokesman continued that the Lib Dems plan to fund their proposals, which also include the abolition of student tuition fees, by introducing a 50 per cent tax band on incomes of more than £100,000 per year. Currently every £1 more than £100,000 is taxed at 40 per cent. It is claimed by the Lib Dems that this proposal would raise £4.5 billlion.
