LIBERAL Democrat councillor, Chris Slyfield, will remain as the leader of Waverley Borough Council - despite the fact that the Lib Dems no longer have overall political control of the council. In December last year, the Mayor of Waverley, Victor Duckett, stood down from the Liberal Democrats on Waverley Borough Council, announcing his decision to become an Independent. This meant that the council is now made up of 28 Liberal Democrats, 27 Conservatives and two Independents - with the Independents holding the balance of power on what is effectively a hung council. Because of this, a special council meeting was held on Monday night to address the situation. At the meeting it was decided that Chris Slyfield should remain as council leader despite the new make up of the council. The executive body of the council was not discussed. Conservative Waverley councillor, Pat Frost, said: "From my perspective, they are the administration, they were elected and I don't see that at this moment in time anything has changed." She added: "As far as I am aware, there are no immediate plans from the Conservatives to do anything other than let the administration carry out its plans."
