CHAWTON House Library has launched a £10,000 Flood Fighting Fund after water from the Lavant Stream cut off the driveway.

The flooding delayed the start of the fundraising season.

While the house is not in danger from flooding, the rising water in the meadows around St Nicholas Church and across the driveway has caused access problems.

The proximity of the floodwater to the cesspit is causing fears of sewage back-up in the house, and portable toilets have been brought in.
