ALTON library has become the first such establishment in the country to have solar panel energy thanks to a collaboration between Energy Alton, Hampshire County Council and Yes Energy Solutions.

On Monday, at the start of Energy Saving Week,

the new 10 kilowatt solar PV installation (which

captures the sun's energy using photovoltaic cells)

was opened by Keith Chapman, the county member

for culture, recreation and countryside.

The event included the 'switching on' of the Solar

PV public display at the library, which shows how

it works.
