This year’s Summer Reading Challenge is coming to Surrey libraries on July 14, with a launch party being held at Farnham Library.
This year’s theme is ‘Mischief Makers’, inspired by the much-loved children’s comic ‘Beano’ which is celebrating its 80th anniversary.
The Summer Reading Challenge is aimed at children aged four to 11 and is for everyone, regardless of reading ability.
Children signing up for this free challenge will follow clues to explore their colourful collector’s map of Beanotown, meeting Dennis, Gnasher and friends along the way.
Borrow books through the summer and earn special stickers to help find the mysterious buried treasure, and other free rewards along the way.
Children will get a certificate and wristband after reading six books. They can even borrow audio books and listen if preferred.
Taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge helps children become more fluent, confident and happy readers.
The launch party will take place from 10am to 4pm, with a range of crafts, activities and treasure hunts to take part in. Activities will also be running during the summer holidays.
‘Beano’ themed bunting will be available to colour, as well as some bookable craft activities such as ‘Decorate a Library Bag’ on August 3. This messy craft is perfect for all ‘Mischief Makers’ and sessions will be running throughout the day.
