THE sound of children learning some Dutch conversation echoed from Farnham Library during the Easter holidays.
The Friends of Farnham Library were presenting another of their painting mornings themed on famous artists. The subject was Vincent van Gogh and the children were painting one of the artist’s well known sunflower paintings.
Gilly Stewart, dressed as van Gogh, taught the children some Dutch phrases and told them the story of the painter’s life with the sound of classical music in the background. She guided the children in colour washing their canvases and then stippling the sunflower petals with sponges.
Four members of the Friends helped the children to create a colourful canvas to take home.
“The Friends held a previous Monet waterlilies painting morning, which proved very successful,” said Claire East, chair of the Friends, “and we plan to hold similar master classes in the future.”
During the May half term holiday at 10.30am on Wednesday, May 30, the Friends will be presenting King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table at the library. Children are invited to come dressed as knights and their ladies.
The children will be told the story of King Arthur and his knights, and will decorate a shield to take home and will be knighted by King Arthur with his silver sword Excalibur. Tickets on sale at the library in late April.
