WHO knew queuing could be so much fun! On December 23 and 24 a group of local residents manned a small refreshment stall outside Morgan’s Butchers, Ridgway Road providing light relief while shoppers queued for their Christmas turkeys.

Teas, coffees, mulled wine and mince pies were offered, along with a raffle, and a “staggering” £1,100 was raised for Farnham-based charity Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. Suzi and Mike Hall and Pan Panayiotou helped organise the event.

“This is our 12th year running this event and we are always amazed by the kindness and generosity of the local public,” said Suzi afterwards.

“It’s now become such a regular and expected event we have people who go out of their way to stop by and donate even if they’re not queuing for Christmas fodder!”

She added: “The teas, coffees, mulled wine and mince pies would not be possible without the support of Tesco Express, with electricity provided by the Ridgway Hair Salon. This year’s raffle prizes were kindly donated both by local residents and Paul from Morgan’s Butchers.

“The team of local residents, who man the stall for the duration of the event, do so with extreme generosity and without hesitation and their support makes this annual event possible.

“This year the total raised was £1,100 - a staggering amount in such a short space of time. All donations go to the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice to support the amazing and wonderful work they do.”
